Shiprock – Avengers Transformers Movie Location – Sacred In Navajo Culture – Tom Green – Van Life

Shiprock New Mexico is a sacred place in Navajo culture and I can see why. It is a beautiful place. There are many legends and stories about this place. I would encourage all of you to take a drive through New Mexico and visit these amazing places. Shiprock is a geological formation called a modadnock. The peak rises 1,583 feet off the desert floor. It’s unique appearance has made it a prime location for many feature films including Avengers, Transformers, The Lone Ranger and more. I remember it as the helicopter base for Airwolf in the 80’s TV series with Jan Michael Vincent. Governed by the Navajo Nation, the formation is in the Four Corners region and plays a significant role in Navajo religion, myth, and tradition. It is located in the center of the area occupied by the Ancient Pueblo People, a prehistoric Native American culture of the Southwest United States often referred to as the Anasazi. Shiprock is a point of interest for rock climbers and photographers and has been featured in several film productions and novels. It is the most prominent landmark in northwestern New Mexico. In 1975, Shiprock was designated as a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service.
